SPATIUM YAMAMOTO - A robotic installation which reads sound vibrations and reacts through motion and light, Spatium Yamamoto was inspired by classic rock iconography and the aesthetics of bands such as Pink Floyd and the parody band Spinal Tap. Comprised of a series of prismatic space frames stacked like futuristic boulders, 24 motors are networked and embedded with iridescent reflectors that refract light through sensor driven light boxes in reaction to live musical performance. Through reading both the sound vibrations of the musicians and the crowd, the typical 2-dimensional stage backdrop becomes an architectural space which blurs the lines between performer, audience and stage
